Leave requests and approvals were in Idenfit, while leave quotas and absence records were in SAP. Approved leave had to be entered into SAP by hand, and employees needed to see their correct remaining balance.

A two-way integration for a container shipping and logistics group: leave approved in Idenfit is written to SAP HR, and SAP leave balances are written back to Idenfit.

The flow we built
The service reads approved leave from Idenfit and calls a custom SAP absence function through a SOAP service. The document number returned by SAP is stored. Leave cancelled in Idenfit is deleted from SAP using that number. Hourly leave is supported, and Idenfit leave types are mapped to their SAP equivalents.
Balance write-back
After each transaction the annual, training and excuse leave balances returned by SAP are written to Idenfit. Employees see their current balance in Idenfit when requesting leave.
Operation
Every processed leave is kept in a local control table with its document number and status, so no leave is sent to SAP twice. Owners receive an email if the service stops.
