Reports that explain production, orders and sales

A useful report shows where a number comes from as well as its value. Business analytics gives ERP and operational data a shared set of definitions that people can understand.

For teams that need traceable reporting

When sales, warehouse and production reports disagree for the same period, the first question is what each report measures. Reporting work connects operational records with management questions, including open orders, shipped quantities, invoiced sales and production costs.

Define the measure before choosing the chart

Revenue, open orders and production quantity are not complete definitions on their own. Returns, cancellations, tax, currency and period rules change the result. A written business definition prevents different calculations from appearing under the same heading.

Orders, dispatches and invoices are different stages

Orders describe demand, dispatches describe delivery movement and invoices describe billing. Adding them into one sales total can count the same business several times. Separate measures can instead show where work remains outstanding.

Production reporting extends beyond finished quantity

Production orders, consumed materials, completed quantities and costs may live in different records. Units of measurement and costs finalised later affect the report. The analytical model needs to make those timing and unit differences explicit.

Two current Logo analytics options

Edge BI focuses on visual exploration using Qlik Sense. Edge BI Navigator emphasises ERP reports across Excel, web and mobile. The number of sources, existing report habits and the way people work help determine the appropriate approach.

WORKFLOW

Define the measure before presenting it

Reconciling a measure to its source records makes the transactions behind a chart total explainable.

  1. Business question
  2. Measure definition
  3. Source reconciliation
  4. Report

Refresh time belongs in the report

A dashboard showing yesterday's data can mislead if users assume it is current. Sources updating at different intervals need a shared cut-off for comparison. Users should be able to see which transactions are included in the total.

Vibe's reporting experience

Vibe has experience reporting on detailed production, orders, dispatches and sales. The work connects operational records with management measures in a traceable way. Clear definitions help different teams interpret the same total consistently.

Questions and answers

Can the ERP's existing reports be enough?

Yes. A standard list from one source may fully meet the need. Combining sources, maintaining shared indicators and exploring different dimensions are reasons for a separate BI solution.

Does BI correct errors in source data?

BI can expose an error, but it does not correct a wrong stock unit or missing document on the business's behalf. A lasting fix addresses the source record and entry rule; a temporary reporting adjustment does not replace that responsibility.
