An identifiable record for each asset
A computer, machine or item of equipment needs an individual record linking its description, serial number and acquisition details. A model name alone cannot distinguish identical devices. The physical identifier needs to match the identifier in the record.
Location and custody are separate facts
Knowing which branch holds a device does not identify its custodian. A location change and a handover or return are separate events. Recording them separately prevents moved equipment from remaining assigned to its previous user.
A physical count explains discrepancies
A count is more than a total. Missing assets, assets found elsewhere and unrecorded assets require different follow-up. The difference needs to be traced to a move, an incomplete record or a duplicate entry.
Financial and physical records serve different purposes
A fixed asset module supports financial records and related accounting. Logo Cloud's current offering includes fixed asset management, with scope dependent on the package. This does not mean that every custody or barcode counting requirement is included in the same module.
How this differs from warehouse management
WMS manages receiving, put-away, picking and dispatch in a warehouse. Asset tracking follows equipment used over time and who holds it. Custody of a production device and stock held for sale require different record structures.
Implementation starts with the existing records
Assets without serial numbers, shared equipment and purchases posted as a single accounting item need to be distinguished during setup. Explaining these differences makes it possible to link physical records to financial entries. Any physical counting application is a separate part of the scope.
